Dragon Blood is one of the ten Color Punch shades AK formulated to hold their strength through thinning and mixing. It is a deep dark red that does not go grey or brown in shadow – which is rare for a dark red.

What it is for in figure painting

What to pair it with
Go deeper with Black Red, lighter through Sun Red and Scarlet Red. With Russet Shadow you get an earthier, less strident shadow.
Frequently asked questions
How is Color Punch different from regular 3Gen paints?
Higher pigmentation. They keep their intensity through thinning and mixing – an ordinary paint in the same glaze fades sooner.
Why does my dark red go grey in the shadows?
Usually because black was added. Use Dragon Blood or Black Red instead – the colour stays red even at its darkest.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
