Kolinsky sable that holds enough paint for a whole glaze.
Size 2 is the largest Series 10 round we stock — Tobolsky Kolinsky red sable, made in Germany, on the short black-polished handle. At 1.70 mm across the ferrule with 11.5 mm of visible hair it holds close to twice the paint of the size 00, and still comes to a single fine point. This is the base-coating, glazing and wet-blending brush for painters who do not want to swap to a second, blunter tool for the big areas.

How to use it
Load it properly — this size only makes sense if you use the belly, so dip past the tip, roll off the excess on the palette edge and lay the paint down in long strokes instead of scrubbing. For glazes, thin heavily and work quickly while the surface is still open, and the 11.5 mm of hair will carry a whole panel or cloak without a reload. Rinse before anything dries in the heel, wash with brush soap at the end of the session and reshape the point every single time.
