Acrylic dries fast, and on a transition that is a problem: by the time the second tone is worked in, the first has set and the blend breaks. Magic Mix is, in the maker's words, a light sealer with an extender, used in place of water – paint mixed with it stays open longer, so blending happens calmly rather than in a panic. On a figure it tells most on the face and across the large surfaces of a cloak, where the transition should read smooth.

Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from a retarder?
Magic Mix replaces water and lightly seals the surface at the same time. A gel retarder does not thin the paint and purely slows drying. For blending, Magic Mix is the usual choice.
Can paint be over-thinned with it?
Yes, as with anything – the more medium, the longer the drying and the weaker the coverage. Start at roughly one to one and adjust from there.
