Brick Red is an earthy orange-red – exactly what the name promises. It is not a clothing colour but a material colour: brick, fired clay, roof tile. On bases and in dioramas it is one of the most-used shades there is.

What to pair it with
Shade with Burnt Red or a brown glaze; highlight with Ocher Orange and Beige. Vary each brick slightly – add a drop of Medium Rust or grey to the mix.

How do I keep a brick wall from looking dull?
Never paint it in one colour. Base the whole area in Brick Red, then vary individual bricks at random with a drop of orange, grey or brown. Irregularity is what makes it real.
Is Brick Red good for rust?
As the lighter tone, yes. For the base Medium Rust is better – Brick Red is more orange and cleaner than rust actually is.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
