What it is for in figure painting
- Deep shadows – on dark brown, grey and olive.
- Unifying a scheme – a thin glaze over the whole figure.
- Textures and recesses – chains, fur, sacking.
What to pair it with
Use it over Dark Brown and Grim Brown; on lighter materials Sepia is the better choice.
Frequently asked questions
Sepia or Burnt Umber ink?
Sepia for pale skin, wood and sand. Burnt Umber for dark cloth, grey and olive – sepia would barely show on those.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
