What it is for in figure painting

What to pair it with
Apply over finished, dry paint. For a softer effect thin it with Glaze Medium or use Sooty Black instead.
Frequently asked questions
When should I use Carbon Black instead of Sooty Black?
When you need a hard, deep shadow – panel lines on a model, for instance. On skin and cloth Sooty Black is almost always the better choice.
Why does my figure look dirty after a black ink?
Most likely the ink is across the whole surface rather than only in the recesses. Black ink belongs in the shadows – lift the excess off the raised areas at once.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
