Metallic Green is the warmer green metallic, with a yellowish undertone – closer to brass tinted green than to emerald. It sits well beside gold and brass, which makes it a natural fit for warm metal schemes.

What it is for in figure painting

  • Green armour – especially paired with gold trim.
  • Patinated metal – as the step between bronze and green verdigris.
  • Sci-fi panels – where metal should be coloured but warm.
  • Insect carapaces – beetles and similar organic surfaces.

What to pair it with

Shade with Bronze or a brown-green glaze; highlight with Old Gold and Silver. With Emerald Metallic Green you get a colder transition.

Frequently asked questions

Is Metallic Green good for patinated bronze?
Very much so. Use it as an intermediate layer between Bronze and a green glaze so the step from metal to patina is not abrupt.

Why is my metallic drying blotchy?
Usually because it was thinned with water or laid on too thick. Use acrylic thinner and build two thin coats instead of one heavy one.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
