What to pair it with
Shade with Dark Sand or Ochre; highlight with Pale Sand and Ice Yellow. For dust, drybrush Pale Sand onto edges and lower surfaces.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a dusty effect?
Drybrush a pale sand along edges and upwards from below – dust settles from the ground up and on horizontal surfaces. Finish with a very thin sandy-grey glaze.
Sahara Yellow or Dark Sand?
Sahara Yellow is yellower and more saturated; Dark Sand is greyer and more muted. Sahara for desert camouflage, Dark Sand for dust and earth.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
