Ionic Smart Colors Thinner 20 ml – a thinner for acrylic paints, for brush and airbrush.

The Ionic thinner is made to thin acrylics while keeping their opacity and adhesion. Water thins paint but also removes binder – at higher ratios the paint then breaks up and does not lay down evenly. A thinner solves that, and with an airbrush the difference is immediate.

What it is used for

  • Thinning for airbrush – roughly 1 : 1, depending on pressure and nozzle.
  • Glazes – more thinner than water keeps a glaze coherent.
  • Wet palette – the paint stays workable longer.
  • Thin brush layers – they still cover even when heavily thinned.

Frequently asked questions

Is water not enough?
For light thinning, yes. For airbrushing and glazes, no – water breaks up the binder and the paint starts to separate. A thinner keeps the paint coherent even at 1 : 1 and beyond.

Can I use it with other brands?
Usually yes, acrylic thinners are fairly cross-compatible. With an unfamiliar combination, test it on the palette first rather than on the figure.
