A mat you can also photograph on. It is five-layer – two soft outer layers over a hard white core – so surface cuts close over time and the mat is not furrowed after a few months. The colour is deliberately neutral: a model on it looks as it looks, with no colour cast from the background, which matters when photographing work in progress. The grid is printed in a different shade on each face, one lighter and one darker, so you can pick whichever suits your lighting and your eyes. The material is recycled PVC.

Frequently asked questions
What does self-healing mean?
The soft outer layers gradually draw back together after a cut, so a surface groove disappears over time. It does not apply to deep cuts through the layer – those leave a permanent mark.
Why is the grid a different shade on each face?
So you can choose. In bright light the darker grid reads better, in dim light the lighter one. The same applies to photography – one face contrasts better with a dark model, the other with a light one.
Is A4 large enough?
For figures, accessories and small-part assembly, yes. Large scales and long profiles call for a bigger format, but A4 fits on any desk and goes away in a drawer.
