All 180 shades of the Ionic Smart Colors range in individual 20 ml jars. Every colour lists its colour family and recommended shades for darkening and highlighting, so you can build a full ladder without mixing.

How to choose

Do not buy shades one at a time – buy them in threes within one colour family: base, shadow and highlight. A single colour always looks flat on a figure; three steps are enough to give a surface shape. The colour family filter on the left will help.

Colour families

The range is divided into fourteen families: white, grey, black, yellow, orange, red, pink, violet, blue, turquoise, green, brown, flesh tone and metallic. The classification is based on the manufacturer's actual colour swatches rather than on names – a few shades carry names that have little to do with their colour.

Frequently asked questions

How many colours do I need to start?
Ten to twelve is enough for a first figure. If you are unsure which, the Basic Set is the better buy – it costs less than twelve separate jars.

How long does a jar last?
At normal miniature painting rates, 20 ml is years of paint. The jar has a sealing lid, so the paint will not dry out as long as you close it.
