What it is for in figure painting
- Shadow under red – a natural dark tone beneath Scarlet Red or a bright cloak.
- Gore effects – on blades, wounds and bases; thinned down it glazes well.

What to pair it with

Is Blood Red dark enough for shadows?
For most red schemes, yes. If you need to go deeper, add Wine Red – black turns the shade grey very quickly.
Can I use it as a base red?
You can, but the result will be dark and muted. For a bright red use Scarlet Red and keep Blood Red for the shadow.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
