What it is for in figure painting

What to pair it with
Shade with Bordeaux Red or Burnt Red; highlight with a drop of Beige. For an even more bleached tone, mix in Dark Sand.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a sun-bleached clothing effect?
Keep the base more saturated – Matt Red, for instance – and use Dead Red on the areas the sun would reach: shoulders, back and the upper folds.
Can Dead Red be the main red?
It can, if the whole figure should look weathered. For a bright uniform Cadmium Red is the better choice.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
