What it is for in figure painting

What is the difference between Bordeaux Red and Wine Red?
Bordeaux Red is slightly lighter and browner; Wine Red is darker and more purple. They are often used together as two shadow steps.
Can I use it as a base under bright red?
Yes – it is one of the best ways to get saturated red. Base with Bordeaux Red and build thin coats of Scarlet Red over it.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
