Clear Smoke is a transparent dark paint – it does not cover, it darkens what lies beneath. On a figure it is used on glass, on sooted areas and for subtle shadows that do not change the colour.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tint glass?
Paint the glass light, then build up Clear Smoke in thin layers. The more layers, the darker – and whatever sits behind the glass stays visible.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
