Gun Metal is a dark metallic with a blue-grey tone – the colour of blued gun steel. It is the most used dark metallic on figures, because it works both as a base and as a colour in its own right.

Frequently asked questions

How do I paint metal with just two colours?
Cover the area in Gun Metal, then put Silver on edges and raised areas only. Two shades far apart read better on a figure than five similar ones.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
