Dark Ochre is a dark ochre brown – earthy, warm and extremely versatile. It is the main shade for ochres and sands and a base coat for mud, old wood and leather. It is one of those jars that empties first.

How do I paint wood with grain?
Base with Dark Ochre, suggest the rings and cracks with a very thin darker colour along the grain, and finish with a lighter dry-brush. Wood is about lines – an even surface reads as plastic.
What do I highlight it with?
Ochre and Sand. Yellow would brighten it too much and white would grey it – stay inside the ochre family.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
