Gloss Medium adds shine without shifting the colour. On figures it is used deliberately and small: eyes, wet surfaces, glass, blood and some leather, where gloss is part of what the material is.

What it is for in figure painting
- Eyes and wet surfaces – shine on the eyeball and on lips.
- Glass and vials – potions and glass parts of kit.
- Wet effects – puddles, mud and water on bases.
- A key for glazes – a smooth glossy surface glazes flow over more easily.
What to pair it with
Mix it into paint or apply it on its own. With Matte Medium you can mix any satin finish; with Blood Effect it gives fresh, wet-looking gore.
Frequently asked questions
Why keep gloss to small areas?
Because a glossy surface reflects light and eats detail. Only what is genuinely shiny in reality should be shiny on a figure – eyes, wet spots, glass and certain leathers.
Can it be used as a varnish?
As a top layer, yes, but it is not a protective varnish. Use a real varnish to protect a figure; the medium is for adjusting finish.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
