Gold from the AK 3rd Generation Metallic range – an ultra-fine pigment gold for armour, trim and heraldry. Acrylic metallic.

Gold belongs to AK's metallic range, marked with a dark blue circle and formulated with a finer pigment than most acrylic metallics. On a gold that matters – coarse pigment reads as glitter on a figure, fine pigment reads as metal.

What it is for in figure painting

What to pair it with

Shade with Rusty Gold or a dark brown glaze; highlight with Old Gold plus yellow. For a colder, ancient gold, mix in Gun Metal.

How do I keep gold from looking like yellow paint?
Always shade it – with a brown glaze or Rusty Gold. An unshaded metallic sits flat and reads as yellow paint rather than metal.

Do metallics need shaking?
Yes, thoroughly. Metallic pigment settles faster than ordinary paint – shake the bottle for at least half a minute.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
