What to pair it with
Shade with Wine Red or Black Red; highlight with Carmine. For a gem, add a white dot in one corner and a dark shadow in the opposite one.
Frequently asked questions
How do I paint a convincing gemstone?
Put the dark shadow at the top of the stone and the brightest point at the bottom – that is how light refracts inside a gem. Finish with a small white glint and gloss varnish.
Ruby or Amaranth Red for a cloak?
Amaranth Red for a cloak – Ruby is darker and better suited to small areas that should read as stone.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
