Shadow Orange is a muted brick orange – an orange with the volume turned down. That is exactly what makes it the ideal shade for the whole orange ladder: it darkens without pushing the tone towards brown or red. On its own it works well for earthy cloth and pottery.

Build shadows with Orange and Blazing Orange, transitions and highlights with Flame Orange and Light Orange.
Why not shade orange with brown?
Brown dirties orange and the tone loses saturation. Shadow Orange is essentially the same orange three steps lower – the transition stays clean.
Can I use it as a flesh colour?
On fantasy creatures, yes; on human skin it is too brick-like. As a glaze over tanned hands, though, it works very well.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
