Sickly Pink from the AK 3rd Generation range – a sickly muted pink for monsters, wounds and visceral effects. Matt acrylic.

Sickly Pink is a pink with an unhealthy, slightly grey-yellow cast – the colour of bare hide, scar tissue and innards. It is not a pleasant pink, and it is not meant to be: it exists for effects that should look raw.

What it is for in figure painting

  • Bare monster hide – rats, worms, grubs and hairless creatures.
  • Wounds and scars – exposed flesh and fresh injuries.
  • Innards – alongside Viscera Effect and Blood Effect.
  • Diseased skin – figures struck by infection.

What to pair it with

Shade with Violet Red or Old Rose; highlight with Pastel Pink. Deepen wounds with a Penetrating Red glaze.

Frequently asked questions

How do I paint a convincing wound?
Keep the edge in flesh tone, the centre in Sickly Pink and glaze dark red into the deepest point. Finish with a drop of Blood Effect – and really just a drop.

Is it good for rat or bare hide?
Exactly that. Base in Sickly Pink, shade with Violet Red and highlight with Pastel Pink – bare hide is never a clean pink.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
