Wine Red is a dark wine red with a violet cast. It is the main shade of the red ladder, but also a beautiful colour in its own right – velvet, burgundy robes, upholstery. It has enough depth to create volume and enough colour that the shadow never becomes a dark blotch.

How do I paint velvet?
Wine Red as the base, Dark Red in the deep folds and very narrow, almost dotted highlights. Velvet has short, sharp highlights – long soft transitions turn it into satin.
How does it differ from Dark Red?
Wine Red is more violet and more colourful, Dark Red darker and browner. Use Wine Red for rich cloth and Dark Red for the deepest shadows.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
