Is it theory or a practical book?
Both, but the weight is on practice. Theory is explained only as far as it takes to make sense of why a given mix works – the rest is shown on models.
Does it apply to vehicles as well as figures?
Yes. It treats transitions and modulation the same way on a vehicle panel as on a figure's face. The principle is identical; only the width of the transition changes.
