The second F.A.Q. volume devoted to figures, this time by Arnau Lázaro and aimed at fantasy. The book works through the techniques a fantasy figure demands and a historical one does not – NMM, OSL, handling volumes, saturated colour schemes with no real-world reference – and shows all of them on finished work. Its 320 pages carry more than 1,200 images, so the text-to-photograph ratio is low and it works as a visual reference as much as a manual. The text is in English.

What language is the book in?
English. The Spanish version was issued separately; there is no Slovak edition.
What are NMM and OSL?
NMM (Non-Metallic Metal) is metal painted with ordinary non-metallic colours, where the shine is created purely by the drawing of light and shadow. OSL (Object Source Lighting) is lighting a model from a source within the scene – a lantern, a fire, a spell. The book covers both in detail.
Does it work for historical figures too?
Partly – volumes, transitions and handling light apply everywhere. The colour schemes and subjects are fantasy, though, so for a historical figure Figures F.A.Q. is the better choice.
