Six RAL shades for German vehicles 1937-1944. 6 × 17 ml, including two Olivgrün variants.

German vehicle camouflage changed three times during the war, and this set covers all three stages. Dunkelbraun and Dunkelgrau were the two-colour standard of 1937-40; from 1940 Dunkelgrau stood alone; in spring 1943 the three-colour system arrived with Dunkelgelb as the base and Olivgrün and Rotbraun for the disruptive pattern. The two Olivgrün variants are deliberate – the paint was issued as an emulsion and thinned in the field, so the shade varied.

FAQ

Why two Olivgrün shades?
Because two existed in practice. The paint was issued as a paste that units thinned themselves – the final shade depended on what they used and how. Two variants let you paint a column that does not look factory-fresh.

What is the correct base for a 1943 vehicle?
Dunkelgelb. Olivgrün and Rotbraun went over it as an irregular pattern – often sprayed, sometimes brushed on in the field, which left soft and hard edges on the same vehicle.

Can the paints be bought individually?
Yes. These are standard shades from the AK 3rd Generation range in 17 ml bottles, so when one runs out you only replace that one.

Can they be airbrushed?
Yes. Thinned with 3rd Generation thinner they pass through a 0.2 mm nozzle as easily as lacquer paints. Neat, they are meant for brushwork.

More paint sets are in the AK 3rd Generation Paint Sets category, and individual shades in AK 3rd Generation.
