Never paint a white object white – it is the first thing a figure painter learns. A white surface without shadow disappears and reads as paper. This set gives six steps from pure white down to Basalt Grey, enough to build white with depth: shadow in the folds, a warmer grey on lit areas, pure white only on the edges.

FAQ
Which shade should be the base?
Not pure white but Offwhite or Silver Grey. Pure white is saved for the highest points – start with it and you have nowhere left to go.
Why is there a reddish grey in the set?
Reddish Grey is the bridge into a warm shadow. White cloth in shadow is never neutral grey – it picks up the colour of its surroundings, and this warm grey imitates that.
Can the paints be bought individually?
Yes. These are standard shades from the AK 3rd Generation range in 17 ml bottles, so when one runs out you only replace that one.
Can they be airbrushed?
Yes. Thinned with 3rd Generation thinner they pass through a 0.2 mm nozzle as easily as lacquer paints. Neat, they are meant for brushwork.
