Octopus Purple is a dark muted violet with a grey cast. On a figure it reads earthy and dignified rather than magical. It is used for historical cloth, sea creatures and as a shade that darkens violets without dirtying them.

What it is good for on miniatures

Build shadows with Deep Violet and Dark Violet, transitions and highlights with Malicious Violet and Twilight Purple.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from Deep Violet?
Octopus Purple is greyer and pinker, Deep Violet cleaner and bluer. Use Octopus Purple for earthy cloth and Deep Violet for saturated violets.

Can I use it as a general-purpose shade?
Yes – it works under a surprisingly wide range of colours: pinks, violets, blues and cold skin. It is one of those jars that empties faster than you expect.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
