Admiral Grey is a dark grey with a green cast – the colour of naval uniforms and ship hulls. It is a calm dark tone that works both as a shade for greys and as a base coat wherever grey should read earthy rather than technical.

Build shadows with Dark Grey and Steel Shadow, transitions and highlights with Armour Grey and Warm Grey.
Why does the grey have a green cast?
Because a perfectly neutral grey looks dead on a figure. The green cast gives the surface character while keeping it calm – it is the difference between grey paint and grey material.
What do I highlight it with?
Armour Grey or Moon Grey. White would strip the green character away at the first step.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
