Is a size 6 filbert useful for 28 mm?
Rarely on the figure itself, but it is excellent for bases, backdrops and varnishing curved surfaces.
The bristles fan out when I press – is that a fault?
No, that is how a filbert works. Blending is done with the flat of the head at low pressure, not with the tip.
How do I clean an AK synthetic brush?
Rinse it in clean water – or the matching thinner for enamels and oils – before the paint sets, work brush soap into the bristles with your fingers, reshape the tip and let it dry point-up. Never leave a brush standing in a jar. The cleaners are in thinners and cleaners.
Synthetic or Kolinsky sable?
Synthetic fibre is springier, cheaper and completely indifferent to harsh thinners, so it is the right choice for varnish, enamels, oils, pigments and every abrasive technique. Sable holds more liquid and comes to a finer point – that is the da Vinci brushes range. Most painters end up owning both and using each for what it does best.
