Primer is the layer everything else stands on. Without it acrylic on smooth plastic, resin or metal holds only until the first touch – with it the paint has something to grip and the model survives handling and varnishing. This primer is self-levelling, so it settles into a thin even coat and does not fill detail. It comes airbrush-ready but brushes on as well. White primer lifts the saturation of whatever goes over it – yellow, orange and red cover in one coat instead of three. It is used wherever the model should read light, and under fluorescent and bright shades it is the only sensible choice. It dries fast and can be sanded after 24 hours; the formula is non-toxic.

What to pair it with
Thin and clean it with AK11500 thinner and Perfect Cleaner. Paint over it from the AK 3rd Generation range and finish the model with varnish. A faster alternative is the spray primer.
Frequently asked questions
Does the primer need thinning?
Not for an airbrush – it comes ready. With a very fine nozzle or at low pressure a few drops of AK11500 thinner do no harm, but beyond about 10 % coverage starts to suffer.
How long should it dry?
Touch-dry in tens of minutes, paintable after an hour. For sanding and mechanical stress leave it 24 hours – the layer is still hardening until then.
Why not just use paint as a base?
Paint lacks the adhesion of a primer and lifts off smooth surfaces at the first touch of a fingernail. Primer is formulated to bond to the substrate and to give paint something to hold.
