Dark Skin is a dark brown flesh tone with red warmth – the base coat for dark complexions and the deepest shade for lighter ones. Unlike an ordinary brown it has a flesh undertone, so on skin it reads as shadow rather than as dirt.

Build shadows with Dark Violet and Black Brown, transitions and highlights with Tanned Flesh and Neutral Flesh.
How do I keep dark skin from looking flat?
The contrast has to be lower than on fair skin, but it has to be there. Dark Skin as the base, Burnt Umber as the shade and highlights through Tanned Flesh to Golden Flesh. Dark skin has strong but narrow speculars.
Can I use it as a shade on fair skin?
Yes, but only heavily thinned and only in the deepest recesses. A solid coat would read as a stain on fair skin.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
