Dead Magenta is a pale faded pink – a magenta whose saturation has drained away. It is a pleasant pastel for cloth, but above all an excellent highlight point for the pink and magenta ladders: it lightens them without bleaching them.

What it is good for on miniatures

  • Highlights on pink and magenta – the top point before white.
  • Faded cloth – old dresses and ribbons.

  • A subtle flush – a very thin glaze on cheeks and ears.

Frequently asked questions

Why not highlight magenta with white?
White turns magenta into a cold pink and the tone loses its character. Dead Magenta lightens while keeping the magenta undertone to the top of the ladder.

Does it work as a colour in its own right?
Yes, it looks good on pastel cloth. It does need a firm shade, though – on its own it carries very little contrast.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
