Scab Red is a very dark maroon with a violet core – exactly the colour of dried blood and old wounds. As a shade it is grimmer and cooler than Dark Red, so it belongs wherever red should read sombre rather than warm.

How do I paint old blood on a blade?
Irregular patches of Scab Red, a few droplets of a brighter red on top, and gloss varnish only on the fresh spots. Old blood is matt, fresh blood is glossy – the difference between them carries the effect.
When should I use Dark Red instead?
When the shadow should be warm. Dark Red is browner and more alive, Scab Red more violet and more dead.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
