Dwarf Skin from the Ionic Smart Colors range – a reddish flesh tone for weathered, windburnt skin. Matt 20 ml acrylic.

Dwarf Skin is a flesh tone with a strong red warmth – skin weathered by wind, smoke and work. On dwarves, smiths and sailors it reads exactly right, and on fairer characters it serves as a first shade with a flush.

What it is good for on miniatures

  • Weathered skin – dwarves, smiths, sailors and mountain folk.
  • Flushed shadows – under the nose, around the eyes and in neck folds.
  • Nose and knuckles – places where skin is naturally redder.
  • Scars and fresh grazes – without them reading as blood.

What to combine it with

Build shadows with Imperial Flesh and Tanned Flesh, transitions and highlights with Pale Skin and Elf Skin.

Frequently asked questions

Will the figure look drunk?
If you put it over the whole face, yes. Use it deliberately – nose, cheeks, ears and knuckles – and keep the rest more neutral.

How does it differ from Tanned Flesh?
Dwarf Skin is lighter and pinker, Tanned Flesh darker and browner. Dwarf Skin is about blood, Tanned Flesh about sun.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
