A real twig or small plant looks better on a diorama than anything artificial – except that after a few weeks it wilts, shrinks and falls apart. This solution deals with that: leave the plant in it overnight and the preservative replaces the sap, so the material stays flexible and keeps the shape you collected it in. Frequently asked questions
How long should a plant stay in the solution?
Overnight, roughly 8 to 12 hours. Less does not let the solution reach through the whole plant; more does no harm. Let it drip and air-dry afterwards.
Do preserved plants need painting?
It is recommended. The preservative stops decay, but chlorophyll fades over time and the green goes with it. A pass of acrylic fixes the colour and ties the plant into the rest of the scene.
What plants does it suit?
Small twigs, mosses, fine herbs – anything meant to serve as a scale tree or bush. On thick wood it is pointless: that does not fall apart and the solution will not penetrate it.
