The first half of a pair that covers wood across its whole range. Vol. 1 is the warm end: freshly cut timber, mahogany, grain, varnished surface and a weathered brown. Each colour carries its job in the name, so you never have to guess which one is the base and which the grain. Combined with Vol. 2, which adds the greys, practically any wood can be painted.

What to combine it with
Grey, sun-bleached wood comes from Old & Weathered Wood Vol 2. Add ironwork on crates with Metallics Colors Set and rust on the nails with Rust and Abandoned.
FAQ
How do I paint wood grain?
Lay the base flat, then draw irregular lines of Wood Grain along the direction of the fibre with a very fine brush. The lines must not be parallel or equal in length – that is the whole trick.
What is the difference between Vol. 1 and Vol. 2?
Vol. 1 holds the warm browns and reds of fresher wood; Vol. 2 holds the greys and bleached tones of wood left outdoors for years. The maker designed them as a pair.
Can the paints be bought individually?
Yes. These are standard shades from the AK 3rd Generation range in 17 ml bottles, so when one runs out you only replace that one.
Can they be airbrushed?
Yes. Thinned with 3rd Generation thinner they pass through a 0.2 mm nozzle as easily as lacquer paints. Neat, they are meant for brushwork.
