Silver from the Ionic Smart Colors range – a bright silver metallic for highlights and trim. Matt 20 ml acrylic.

Silver is a bright silver metallic with a fine grain – the lightest point of the metal ladder. Use it deliberately: on blade edges, armour edges and silver trim. Over a whole surface it looks too new; as a highlight it is irreplaceable.

Frequently asked questions

Why not paint a whole weapon in silver?
Because real metal is darker and reflects its surroundings rather than light evenly. Base with Black Metal, do the surface in Steel and put Silver on the edges only – the difference is immediate.

How do I get a finer grain?
By thinning. Metallics have larger pigment particles than ordinary paints, so a thick coat emphasises the grain. Two thin coats look smoother than one heavy one.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
