Zombie Skin is a yellow-brown flesh tone with an unhealthy cast – skin that has dried out and darkened. It is the darker step of the undead ladder below Rotten Flesh, and surprisingly also a good tanned living complexion once softened with white.

What it is good for on miniatures

  • Dried undead skin – mummies, ghouls and desiccated corpses.
  • Shadows on sick skin – the step down below Rotten Flesh.
  • Old leather and parchment – materials that were once organic.
  • Tanned complexions – mixed with Neutral Flesh it gives a convincing desert tone.

What to combine it with

Build shadows with Imperial Flesh and Tanned Flesh, transitions and highlights with Pale Skin and Elf Skin.

Frequently asked questions

How do I paint a mummy?
Base with Zombie Skin, glaze brown into every recess and draw the bone edges up with Bone. Keep the bandages a shade lighter than the skin, or the figure merges into one mass.

Why does it sometimes look like a plain brown?
On a small area in poor light, it does. Its unhealthy character only shows in contrast – next to healthy pink skin the difference is obvious at once.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
