Texture for dry mud and dust splatter. 100 ml, a lighter tone for older, dried-on deposits.

The lighter, drier sibling of wet splatter. The difference is not only tone – dry mud is an older deposit that has had time to dry and lighten. Layering the two is what gives a vehicle a timeline: dark wet splatter on top, pale dry mud underneath. The consistency is the same, so it goes on with a brush or an airbrush.

What it is good for

  • Dried mud on armour and stowage boxes
  • Pale splatter on dry terrain and roads
  • An older layer beneath fresh wet mud
  • Dusty deposits on gear and a figure's boots

What to combine it with

Add the fresh layer on top with Splatter Effects Wet Mud and build the ground from Terrains Dry Ground. Tune the dust with pigments from the Pigments category and crack the surface with Light and Dry Crackle Effects.

FAQ

In what order do dry and wet mud go on?
Dry first, wet second. Layers on a model build up chronologically and fresh mud is always on top – the other way round looks artificial.

Can it be used on a figure?
Yes, sparingly on boots, trousers and the hem of a coat. On a 28 mm figure apply it with the very tip of a brush or the scale is lost.

How do I clean my tools?
Water, as long as the material is still wet. Rinse the brush right after use – use an old brush for splatter, not a good detail one.

Can the texture be thinned?
Yes, with water or acrylic thinner. With splatter, thinning is the main control – a thinner mix gives smaller, sharper droplets.
