Brass does in modelling what plastic cannot: it is thin, stiff and can be soldered. Where a plastic rod would bend or snap at the first touch, brass holds – which is why aerials, grab handles, gun barrels and the pins under figures are made from it. This diameter is 0.9 mm, and the pack holds 5 rods 20 cm long, so one pack yields a great many parts. The middle diameters, the ones that run out fastest on a modelling bench. Thin enough for detail, stiff enough to hold a part in place. The material takes cyanoacrylate, two-part epoxy or solder.

Frequently asked questions
How do I cut a rod without crushing the end?
Not with cutters. At thin diameters a knife is enough: lay the rod on a mat, roll it under the blade a few times and it snaps cleanly. For thicker sizes use a razor saw or a tube cutter, then dress the end with a file.
Does paint stick to brass?
Not on its own. Brass must be degreased and primed before painting – without primer the acrylic peels at the first touch. Suitable primers are in the Primers category.
What glue works on brass?
Cyanoacrylate or two-part epoxy; plastic cement does nothing on metal. For load-bearing joints soldering is the surest, but for ordinary detail work cyanoacrylate in a close-drilled hole is plenty.
