Emerald Metallic Green is a saturated green metallic with a deep, almost gemlike sheen. Unlike Metallic Green it leans towards blue, which makes it read colder and richer.

What it is for in figure painting

  • Fantasy armour – green plate, elven and serpentine aesthetics.
  • Dragon and snake scales – once shaded it reads as glossy reptile hide.

What to pair it with

Shade with Gun Metal or a dark green glaze; highlight with Metallic Green and Silver. For scales, add a top layer of Pearl.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep dragon scales from looking flat?
Base them in Emerald Metallic Green, shade the bottom of each scale and lightly highlight its top edge – the contrast within a single scale is what sells it.

How is it different from Metallic Green?
Emerald is colder and shifted towards blue; Metallic Green is warmer and leans yellow.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
