What it is for in figure painting

What to pair it with

Lay it over a light base – ideally white or Pastel Pink. Shade with Magenta and Deep Purple, and build the glow with thinned glazes.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't magenta show up over black?
Because magenta pigments have poor opacity. Without a light undercoat the colour stays dark and muddy – base with white or pale pink.

Laser Magenta or Fluorescent Magenta?
Laser Magenta is cleaner and more saturated; Fluorescent Magenta has a neon cast and reacts far more strongly under UV light.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
