Light Flesh is a pale flesh tone that works as a highlight rather than a base. On a figure it goes where light falls: forehead, cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, knuckles and chest.

What it is for in figure painting
- Skin highlights – the light tone above Basic Skin Tone.
- Pale skin – as the base for very fair characters.
- Mixing – lightening flesh tones without white.
- Light on the face – forehead, nose and chin under side lighting.
What to pair it with
Shade with Basic Skin Tone and Dark Flesh; highlight with Luminous Flesh or a drop of Ivory. For smooth blends add Retarder.
Frequently asked questions
Why not highlight skin with white?
White turns flesh a chalky grey. Light Flesh and Luminous Flesh brighten it while keeping the warmth.
How many tones does skin need?
Three at minimum – shadow, base and highlight. On busts and larger scales five or more, with smooth transitions between them.
How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
