Ochre is a clean earth pigment – warm, full-bodied and free of any green cast. It is one of those colours that looks unspectacular but empties fastest: it holds together earth, wood, leather and cloth, and in mixes it softens tones that are too bright.

What it is good for on miniatures
- Earth and mud on bases – a base coat under dry-brushing and pigments.

Frequently asked questions
What should I shade Ochre with?
Bubonic Ochre or Dark Ochre. A brown works too but shifts the tone – if it should stay ochre, stay within the ochre ladder.
Is it good for glazing skin?
Yes – thinned into a very light glaze it gives pale skin warmth without turning it yellow.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
