Bubonic Ochre is a dark ochre – a yellow that has already crossed into earth. It is the deepest point a yellow ladder can reach without turning brown. It is also an excellent standalone colour for dried mud, old timber and grimy brass.

What is the difference between Bubonic Ochre and Ochre?
Bubonic Ochre is darker and a little greener, Ochre is cleaner and warmer. Use Bubonic Ochre for shadows and Ochre as the base coat of an ochre surface.
Can I use it to shade skin?
On golden and tanned flesh tones, yes – it looks very natural. On pale skin it is too yellow; Imperial Flesh works better there.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
