Pale Yellow is a soft, diluted-looking yellow – not whitened, but naturally light. On a figure it is the workhorse highlight tone on yellow areas and, at the same time, the colour of old ivory and bleached canvas.

What it is for in figure painting

  • Highlights on yellow – the light tone above Yellow and Golden Yellow.

What to pair it with

Shade with Deep Yellow or Sand Yellow; highlight with Ice Yellow and white. With Ivory you get a warmer, creamier tone.

Frequently asked questions

Pale Yellow or white for highlights?
On yellow, always Pale Yellow. White drains yellow towards grey – a pale yellow brightens it while keeping the colour.

Is it good for bleached canvas?
Yes – one of the most natural colours for old canvas and tarpaulins, especially with a grey glaze in the folds.

How do I thin it?
With water or an AK thinner. A few drops are enough for brush work; airbrushing needs more – AK thinners and cleaners are made for that. With acrylics, two thin coats always beat one thick one.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, the 3rd Generation range dries matt. To protect the figure or even out the sheen, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
