Shadow Grey is a dark grey with a blue-green core – the colour of shadow on an overcast day. It is neither a clean grey nor a blue; that ambiguity makes it a very natural shadow that reads on a figure as absence of light rather than as a layer of paint.

What it is good for on miniatures

Frequently asked questions

Why is it so greenish?
Real outdoor shadows are not neutral grey – they reflect the sky and the surroundings. That green cast is exactly what makes it a more convincing shadow than a clean grey.

Can I use it as a base for rocks?
Yes, and it is excellent for it. Base with Shadow Grey, dry-brush Misty Grey and touch the edges with Moon Grey – a rock is done in minutes.

How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.

Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
