Smoke Grey is a light grey with a blue cast – smoky, cool and very legible. It is the second highlight step on black cloth and an excellent colour for steel highlights. On a figure it reads technical and modern.

How do I paint steel without metallics?
A dark blue-grey base, Smoke Grey as the mid tone, narrow white highlights and near-black reflections. Non-metallic steel lives on hard contrast – soft transitions turn it into plastic.
How does it differ from Pearl Grey?
Smoke Grey is darker and bluer, Pearl Grey lighter and more violet. Smoke Grey is a mid tone, Pearl Grey a highlight.
How do I thin this paint?
With water or an Ionic thinner. The formula is self-hydrating, so it stays workable on the palette far longer than ordinary acrylics – a drop is enough for brush work, and roughly 1 : 1 for airbrush.
Is the finish really matt?
Yes, it dries matt with no shiny patches. If the figure is going on the gaming table, seal it with a matt varnish at the end.
