Water Gel Transparent is a dense, clear gel that holds its shape. That is exactly why it works where self-levelling resin would simply run away – a stream over rocks, the bow wake behind a hull, ripples along a shoreline. Paint the depth you want underneath, then spread the gel with a spatula in layers of 0.1 to 3 mm; the cured surface stays transparent and keeps whatever shape you gave it with a spatula or an old brush.

What it is good for
- A shallow stream or puddle on a base where the painted bottom should show through
- Ripples and disturbance around a figure wading through water
- A wet sheen on rocks, rails and mud after rain
- A thin film of water on cobbles beside a vehicle in a city scene
What to combine it with
Paint the depth under the gel – a darker bottom reads as deeper water. For open sea reach for Water Gel Atlantic Blue or Water Gel Pacific Blue, for stagnant swamp water for Water Gel Swamp Green. Add white crests with Water Foam and build a perfectly flat pond surface with Still Water.
FAQ
Why did my gel dry milky?
The layer was too thick. The gel cures by evaporation and above 3 mm the centre never clears. Build it up in several thin layers and let each one dry completely.
Can the gel be tinted?
Yes. Add a small amount of acrylic paint and mix well for murky river or harbour water. Tint drop by drop – pigment is very strong in a transparent medium.
How do I clean my tools?
Water, as long as the gel is still wet. Rinse the spatula and the old brush right after use – cured acrylic gel will not come off.
Does it stick to resin and plastic?
Yes, it holds on resin, plastic, plaster and painted wood. The surface has to be clean and grease-free or the gel will lift at the edges.
